ABAF Board Members
Hans Buysse has been president ABAF-BVFA for 9 years. Currently he is deputy chairman of the association and represents its at international organisations like EFFAS. He is EFFAS Executive Management Committee member and treasurer (www.effas.org) and XBRL Europe Executive Committee member. He is member of the ESMA Corporate Reporting Standing Committee’s Consultative Working Group (www.esma.europa.eu). He is also member of the ACIIA Executive Board 2013.
Hans is a partner of Syncap, based in Brussels. He has more than 15 years banking and corporate finance experience. This includes buy side and sell side assignments, as well as MBO and IBO, within the energy & utilities sector, telecom, real estate and infrastructure. He also has extensive experience in structured finance, financial restructuring, strategic advisory, valuations and PPP. He was involved in most large Belgian PPP deals.
Hans started his career at KU Leuven, moved to Generale Bank in 1992 (Corporate Banking, Group Treasury (financial markets) and Central Credit Department). He cofounded the Corporate Finance division at Deloitte & Touche Belgium in 1997, worked as a partner for KPMG Corporate Finance up to 2007 and at NIBC Bank Belgium where he was head of Advisory.
Hans holds a master degree in Applied economics, specialized in finance, a master degree in management and a degree in Tax. He is a Certified European Financial Analyst (FSA accredited).
Luc Van der Elst
Luc Van der Elst has taken roll of chairman of ABAF-BVFA since October 2012. Previously he was deputy chairman of the association. As a board member of ABAF-BVFA, Luc has been coordinating and supervising the annual Award for Best Financial Information since 2006.
January 2006, Luc joined Bank Delen, one of the leading independent Belgian Private Banks, controlled by the Investment Company Ackermans & van Haaren. Consolidated Assets Under Management of Delen Private Bank have grown to over EUR 20bn. At Bank Delen, Luc is an advisor to the private client Portfolio and Fund Managers on (des)investment opportunities in Europe with a focus on individual European industrial blue chips and the Belgian stock market.
Luc started his professional career in 1988 as a Corporate Officer in the Corporate & Investment Banking division at Generale Bank. In 1994, he moved to the sell-side research in the Financial Markets dealing room. As head of the Belgian sell-side research team since 1998, he contributed to the integration of the Belgian equity research product in the pan-European Fortis research network.
After graduating in 1986 as a civil engineer in construction at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Luc also got a degree in Investment and Financial Statement Analysis at the Interuniversity Centre of Financial Analysis Brussels. During his career, he has contributed to articles and lectures for the VFB (organization of Flemish Investment Clubs and Investors), the financial press and Brussels-based business schools on topics related to the Belgian stock market and equity valuations.
Luc Keuleneer is secretary general of ABAF-BVFA.
Luc currently works as a director at KPMG in Brussels. He is a consultant to the Office of the Secretary of State in charge of coordinating the fight against fraud.
Luc started his career as a scientific assistant to the K.U. Leuven. He has worked as an advisor to the Cabinet of the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, as an executive attaché at Paribas Bank and a director at the Institute of Company Auditors. He was been Vice-Chairman of the Board of CGER Holding and director and member of the audit committee of Gimvindus, Sidinvest and 'LB capital. He was a member of the privatization committees of both the Federal and Flemish government.
Luc teaches as Professor of Financial Management at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the University of the Netherlands Antilles and as a visiting professor at the Ghent University, Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, Catholic University of Leuven, Maastricht University and the Royal Dutch Institute of Chartered Accountants (NIVRA -VERA). He is affiliated as a research associate at IMD (Institute of Management Development) in Lausanne.
Luc is a commercial engineer (K.U. Leuven 1981) and Master of Business Administration (Finance) (University of Chicago, 1983). He followed additional trainings in strategic finance and risk management at IMD in Lausanne ant the Swiss Finance Institute.
René Clerix is member of the board and treasurer of ABAF-BVFA.
René currently heads the equity team within the Institutional Clients department at Dexia Asset Management.
René started his career at KU Leuven, moved to Paribas Bank België in 1989 to work as financial analyst. Since 1995 he has been active as equity fund manager firstly at Cordius Asset Management and later at Dexia Asset Management (now Candriam Investors Group). Since 2007 his focus shifted from fund management to institutional mandates.
René is also lecturer at HU Brussel where he teaches equity analysis and portfolio management.
René holds a master degree in Applied Economics, specialized in finance. He is a Certified European Financial Analyst and a CFA-charter holder
Jean Marie Caucheteux
Jean-Marie Caucheteux is member of the Board of ABAF-BVFA.
Jean-Marie is Head of Equity Research at Bank Degroof and Research Coordinator of the European Securities network (ESN) which is a partnership of 10 European banks with a brokerage arm active also in North and Latin America. He is specialized in real estate.
Jean-Marie has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial sector of which mostly equity analysis and strategy, on top of corporate finance and tax engineering. He worked for several major players in the Belgian banking and brokerage sector. He has been directly involved in several major M&A and IPO transactions of utilities, banks and real estate companies mainly in Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
Jean-Marie is an economist from the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) with a major in finance. He also holds degrees in taxation and computer sciences.
Rudy De Groodt
Rudy De Groodt is member of the Board of ABAF-BVFA.
Since 2010 Rudy works as equity analyst at BNP Paribas Fortis Private Banking. He is specialized in Dutch stocks and Belgian financials companies.
Rudy started his career as assistant professor at EHSAL Brussels within the Department for International Co-operation. In 1994 he joined Bank Corluy as equity analyst and portfolio manager. During that period Rudy remained active as guest lecturer and also contributed as columnist to many articles in the financial press.
8 years later Rudy returned to ESHAL to become coordinator of advanced master program “ Master in European Business" and lecturer of different financial courses.
The attraction of the financial markets made Rudy return to become equity analyst again. He joined BNP Paribas Fortis in 2007 to cover the automobile and financial sector.
Serge Pattyn is member of the Board of ABAF-BVFA and has been since many years involved in the annual award for Best Financial Information.
Since 2011 Serge is a Partner at Emerio, a small corporate finance boutique that offers both CFO- and corporate finance services (fund raising, M&A, project financings, restructurings…).
Serge started his career at KBC Bank in 1988. He worked successively as financial analyst and accounting expert in the credit department and as project finance manager in the corporate finance department.
In 1998 he joined KBC Securities as sell-side analyst where he mostly covered Belgian and Dutch small- and midcaps be it that during that period he was also involved in numerous corporate finance transactions (IPO’s, M&A…).
After a short period with Delta Lloyd Securities (2006-2007), he became an independent financial consultant advising small- and medium sized companies on financial management.
Since 2011, Serge Pattyn is also a member of EFRAG’s Technical Expert Group that advises the IASB and the European Union on the development of the international accounting standards. Since many years already, he is also an author on bookkeeping and accounting for Kluwer Rechtswetenschappen.
As an all-round financial expert, Serge Pattyn is a much-asked speaker at seminars and lectures on accounting, equity valuation and financial management in general.
Johan Van den Branden
Johan Van den Branden is member of the Board of ABAF-BVFA.
Since 2006 Johan is the CEO of Febelfin Academy asbl and the Brussels Finance Institute, the training & competence centre for the financial sector in Belgium, an independent daughter in the Febelfin Group.
Johan started his career in 1992 at the Belgian Bankers’ Association, coordinating an international training & consulting platform for banking institutes. In 1995 he co-established the Belgian Bankers Academy asbl specialised in the management of technical assistance projects for the financial sector, financed by (inter)national donors (Belgian government, European Union, EBRD, World Bank,…).
Johan is also member of multiple advisory committees regarding technical competence standards in finance both in the sector as within the academic world, a visiting lecturer in Finance (ALM) at Hogeschool Gent and Vlerick Management School, and conducts training & consulting missions for individual financial institutes. He is a member of the Board of Febelfin Academy, the Belgian Bankers Academy.
Rudy Vandorpe is a member of the board of ABAF-BVFA.
Rudy currently is Head of Portfolio Management at ING Private Banking.
Rudy started his career at De Belegger NV and Bank De Martelaere NV. From 1997 to 2006, he was responsible for the management of all Fortis Bank mutual funds, invested in Belgian equities.
In 2007, he moved to BNP Paribas Fortis Private Banking to head Equity and Private Equity Specialists at BNP Paribas Fortis Private Banking. Major responsibilities included equity research and for the private equity and real estate offering of BNP Paribas Fortis Private Banking. He has been board member in 2 private equity funds where he represents BNP Paribas Fortis.
Rudy has more than 15 years of experience in financial markets as a financial analyst and asset manager, with a special focus on Belgian quoted companies.
Rudy holds a degree in Commercial Engineering and is a Certified European Financial Analyst.
Bertrand Sluys is member of the board of ABAF-BVFA.
Bertrand works currently with Fuchs & Associés Finance, based in Brussels (www.fuchsfin.com)
Bertrand is the founder of the Vega Delta investment program, an absolute return strategy transforming volatility into performance.
Bertrand started his career at ULB Brussels, moved to Fortis Investment Management in 1993 (Asset management. Equities and bond Fond manager. Top down approach). He moved to Fortis Bank in 2004 to manage a part Fortis Bank’s equities using his own models.
Bertrand holds a master degree in Applied economics, a master degree in econometrics.
